Prior to CrossFit, my exercise routine was an inconsistent mix of “weight training,” running, and basketball. Just enough movement to sustain my love for beer and late night Taco Bell runs. I just couldn’t find the right gym or routine to keep me engaged and motivated.

After years of “working out” at RPAC, Planet Fitness, and LA Fitness, I was ready for a change. Joining a CrossFit gym had always been in the back of my mind (almost joined CFB when they opened back in December of 2017), but general misconceptions and fear of the unknown kept me from taking the plunge.

All that changed in April of 2019 after a long weekend in Joshua Tree, CA. Eli Platt, my former college roommate, 10-year CrossFit enthusiast, and certified CF-L1 coach, answered every question I had and completely sold me on taking a new approach to my health and fitness. I joined CrossFit Bexley the next week.

After a handful of humbling workouts, I realized I had finally found what I was looking for. Every day at the gym was a new challenge and an opportunity to improve. Do I go faster? Do I go heavier? Do I slow down and focus on form? Do I learn a new movement? Do I scale movements and give my body a break? This is what keeps me coming back for more—every day is different.

I’m so thankful for this gym. The coaches AND the members are great—a true community. Everyone is constantly giving tips, feedback, support, and encouragement. I have very few outlets in my life where I’m able to compete—whether against myself or the people around me. It drives and motivates me in a way I can’t describe. I look forward to the 8:00p WOD announcement every single day. It’s addicting—and it’s my therapy. Thank you CFB!
